KENTEN Structures

A Visit to Doha Photo Festival

A personal experience
As an individual visitor, my name is Michael Jones, I had the privilege of participating in the first ever Doha Photo Festival. The event was held at Darb Al Saai in Umm Salal and ran from November 8th to November 13th, 2024, providing an excellent platform for photographers and creatives from around the world to network and showcase their work.

Exhibition Hall

Overview of the Exhibition Hall

It is understood that the organizers built this temporary building of about 5,000 square meters especially for the festival. The front of the pavilion is fronted by a 100-meter-long glass wall, which not only gives the building a modern feel, but also makes it stand out.The new building, called Pyramid Structure, is a mesh structure made by the Chinese company KENTEN Structures, which uses recyclable aluminum alloys, which is environmentally friendly and has the advantage of natural lighting, reducing energy consumption. The modular design allows all components to be prefabricated and quickly assembled on site, greatly simplifying the installation process.

Interior Decoration and Layout

Entering the interior of the exhibition hall, the first thing you feel is the simplicity and elegance brought by the black and white color scheme. The interior walls are decorated in black, while the ceiling is white. Combined with the air-conditioning system and professional lighting equipment, the whole space is brightly illuminated by white lights. The central area features a circular exhibition area surrounded by carefully arranged photographs, which, together with the special circular lighting design, provides visitors with an immersive viewing experience.
The right area is divided into several different sections:

  • Old Photographs and Antique Cameras Zone: This area showcases precious items from the history of photography, allowing visitors to experience the development of photographic technology up close.
  • The Movie Images Area: dedicated to movie-related images, this area attracts many movie lovers.
  • Main Stage for Lectures and Seminars: Internationally renowned photographers share their experiences and insights here, a great opportunity for learning and exchange.
  • Public Workshops and Interactive Platform: a hands-on opportunity for visitors interested in gaining a deeper understanding of photographic techniques.
The area on the left side mainly showcases the works of contemporary photographers. The panels here are neatly arranged and each photo is accompanied by a detailed explanatory plaque, making it easy for visitors to understand the background of the work and the creative process. There are also workshops and interactive platforms for the public, offering a series of training courses on photography techniques to help enthusiasts enhance their skills.
Doha Photo Festival

The inaugural Doha Photo Festival, as part of the cultural season, aims to emphasize the role of photography as a medium to express and document the importance of life. It not only hopes to inspire the community by showcasing outstanding works, but also aims to promote photographic tourism. In addition, by organizing various workshops and seminars, the festival promotes community capacity building and enhancement. For me, it is not only a visual treat, but also a valuable opportunity for cultural exchange and learning.

Overall Feeling

The design of the entire exhibition hall is both modern and artistic, and each exhibition area has been carefully arranged to ensure that visitors can immerse themselves in the world of photography. Whether you are a photography enthusiast or a general audience, you will find what interests you here and be inspired and entertained. I hope my introduction has given you a taste of the unique charm of the first Doha Photo Festival.
